After seeing the effectiveness of ABA across kids of all different backgrounds and abilities, I knew this is what I wanted to do. I enjoy the variety in the skills we can teach, as well as the ability to teach them anywhere from the home to community and anywhere in between. I love the opportunity to work with kids on a variety of skills including communication, social skills, life skills, emotional regulation and academics.
I enjoy working on communication goals, especially with those who are non-verbal. It’s so exciting to see how alternative methods of communication open a world of possibilities for these individuals. I also love implementing community living goals. Both of these areas foster independence and confidence for our clientele and tend to generalize into all areas of their lives.
I started off as a classroom teacher in an inner-city school in Nashville, TN working in a K-3 self-contained Autism classroom. From there I was an ABA therapist where I worked in home, community, and clinical settings with children ages 2-15. After moving to Cleveland in 2013, I worked both in in-home and school settings with kids 2-13 before working at a school specifically for kids with Autism and other significant behavioral needs ranging from 6-17. I have been at Building Blocks since March of 2015.
Professionally, I’m passionate about helpings others in a fun and exciting way that capitalizes on their strengths and interests. I love reading the latest research and being up-to-date with the best strategies and interventions.
Personally – I love to travel with my husband and have been multiple places in Europe, Asia, and Central America. I also love to try new food and restaurants in Cleveland and when I travel.
I enjoy the collaboration between co-workers. It’s wonderful to be able to learn from them and improve myself from their input. I also love how positive and encouraging all the staff members are. Their love for the kids and passion for their work really shows!
