Why did you choose to pursue a career in ABA?
While in college, I worked as a nanny for a child with ASD. When I was ready to start the post-grad job search, I looked into more structured career options working with children on the spectrum. My first job in the field was an eye-opening experience, and I was hooked from the start. I loved being able to work with people and to see the progress they made each day. Even the smallest improvements are something to celebrate in ABA. I’ve always found that very rewarding.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about ABA in general and specifically, working with children and families affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). I love the opportunity to learn more in the field because I enjoy being able to be a resource to others in need. I believe that getting the word out and educating others on their options for treatment is crucial because I’ve seen first-hand what ABA can do for a child with ASD. It’s truly life-changing!
What do you enjoy most about working at Building Blocks Therapy?
I love working for BBT because the organization is child-centered. They are so flexible in working with families and children. All of the treatment plans are custom-made to each child and their individual needs. In addition, we work closely with staff from the Galvin Therapy Center to provide what I like to consider an “all-inclusive” package deal. There are so many educated, up-to-date, and influential people that serve as a daily hub of knowledge within the entire organization. Everyone on the administrative team is so approachable and available to open dialogue in planning programs and managing behaviors. They are always extending learning opportunities and professional development opportunities to their staff. ABA should not be a “one size fits all” approach. I believe we do a great job of implementing creative, practical, and FUN therapy sessions!
