Why did you choose to pursue a career in ABA?
I’ve been fascinated by healthcare since I was very young—both of my parents are nurses—so I always knew I wanted to work in healthcare, too. While working as a habilitation specialist right out of college, I interacted a lot with occupational therapists. One day, as I was talking with the OT about the field, everything clicked. I thought, “How could I not do this?!” Occupational therapy just “makes sense” to me.
What varied experience do you have in your field?
I have worked in pediatrics throughout my OT career, primarily in school-based practice in New York City. I have worked with high schoolers at a charter school and preschoolers with developmental disabilities—including Autism—and complex medical needs at a non-profit special needs preschool. I studied abroad for my OT degree in the UK—all of my fieldwork was completed in Scotland’s National Health Service.
What degrees, licenses, certifications and/or special training do you hold?
I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Pre-Dance Therapy from Eastern Michigan University and a Master of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, Scotland. I have OT licenses in Ohio and New York and am registered with the NBCOT. I am BLS certified.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about optimizing health, wellness, and safety from a holistic perspective. I strive to take all things into consideration and reflect that there are a variety of influences and interrelationships at play. I love helping kids discover that they “can do it!” even when something is tricky and seeing how progress can help improve confidence and competence.
What do you enjoy most about working at Building Blocks Therapy?
I enjoy the friendly atmosphere and strong collaborative environment at BBT.
