Why did you choose to pursue a career in ABA?
After seeing the effectiveness of ABA across kids of all different backgrounds and abilities, I knew this is what I wanted to do. I enjoy the variety in the skills we can teach, as well as the ability to teach them anywhere from the home to community and anywhere in between. I love the opportunity to work with kids on a variety of skills including communication, social skills, life skills, emotional regulation and academics.
Do you have any special areas of interest?
I enjoy working on communication goals, especially with those who are non-verbal. It’s so exciting to see how alternative methods of communication open a world of possibilities for these individuals. I also love implementing community living goals. Both of these areas foster independence and confidence for our clientele and tend to generalize into all areas of their lives.
What varied experience do you have in your field?
I started off as a classroom teacher in an inner-city school in Nashville, TN working in a K-3 self-contained Autism classroom. From there I was an ABA therapist where I worked in home, community, and clinical settings with children ages 2-15. After moving to Cleveland in 2013, I worked both in in-home and school settings with kids 2-13 before working at a school specifically for kids with Autism and other significant behavioral needs ranging from 6-17. I have been at Building Blocks since March of 2015.
What degrees, licenses, certifications and/or special training do you hold?
