Ohio offers a variety of resources and support systems for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and their families. These services encompass early intervention, educational support, community programs, and legal advocacy.

Early Intervention Services

  • Help Me Grow: A statewide program providing services to families with children from birth to age three, focusing on developmental support and early intervention.
  • Ohio Early Intervention: Offers services to families with infants and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities, aiming to enhance child development and support family needs.
  • Ohio Guidestone: Provides child mental health services, including autism treatment programs, to help children and families thrive.

Educational Support

  • Autism Service Guidelines: Developed by the Ohio Department of Education, these guidelines assist educators and parents in supporting students with ASD across various age groups.  
  • Autism Scholarship Program: Administered by the Ohio Department of Education, this program offers scholarships to parents of children with autism, enabling them to access specialized education services outside their public school district.  
  • Individualized Education Programs (IEPs): Legal documents that outline special education services tailored to the unique needs of students with disabilities, including autism.
  • 504 Plans: Plans developed to ensure that a child with a disability identified under the law receives accommodations that allow them to participate in general education.

Community Resources

  • Milestones Autism Resources: Based in Cleveland, Milestones offers support, evidence-based methods, and coaching for families and professionals to help autistic individuals reach their potential.  
  • Monarch Center for Autism: Located in Cleveland, Monarch provides a comprehensive array of residential, educational, and transition programs for individuals with ASD.  
  • Autism Society of Greater Cleveland: Offers resources, programming, and support for individuals with autism and their families in Northeast Ohio.  
  • Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence (OCALI): Provides resources, professional development, and support for families and educators of individuals with autism and low-incidence disabilities.  

Legal Rights and Advocacy

  • Disability Rights Ohio: Provides advocacy and legal services to protect the rights of individuals with disabilities, including those with autism.
  • Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD): Provides resources and support for individuals with developmental disabilities, including autism, to promote community inclusion and personal growth.
  • Ohio Association of County Boards (OACB): Advocates for county boards of developmental disabilities, ensuring quality services and supports for individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities.

  • Autism Society of Ohio: A coalition of local affiliates offering information, support, and advocacy for individuals with autism and their families across the state.  
  • Autism Scholarship Program: Provides funding for parents to send their children with autism to specialized education programs outside their public school district.

Clinical Director

Erin Bailosky-Arter, BCBA

While in college, Erin worked as a nanny for a child with ASD and was inspired to pursue a career working with children on the spectrum. Erin loves working on social skills development and executive functioning skills and enjoys training and teaching others. Erin has worked with kids of all ages, has a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Leadership, a Master of Education, and is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. Erin is passionate about ABA and working with children and families affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder. She loves working at Building Blocks Therapy because it is child-centered, flexible, and offers custom-made treatment plans to each child.
